Not Many Wise Men
Dec 21“God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in His presence” (I Corinthians 1:27–29).
Raising a Man in a Boy’s World
Jun 10One day, Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee Frank Howard, was playing ball out in the front yard of their beautifully landscaped home. Suddenly, the Frank’s wife appeared from inside the home and front their front porch yelled, “Honey! You and the boys are ruining the lawn!” Frank snapped back, “We’re not raising grass, we’re raising boys!”
Shew Thyself a Man
Apr 22“Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man;” I Kings 2:1-2 The words of a Christian man spoken in his last days on this earth can be some of the most powerful counsel given. Such was the case of King David. Shortly before his falling asleep in the Lord, David summoned his son, Solomon, to his bedside. What he shared with his dear son back then, speaks to the hearts of every Christian man today. David commanded Solomon to “Shew thyself a man.” (I Kings 2:2)
will the lord return and find his children faithful?
Mar 09"Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?" (Proverbs 20:6) Faithfulness is like a rare and precious gem. It is difficult to find a real such gem, though there are many who will offer their virtues as a substitute. Moses, however, was one such man. "And Moses verily was faithful in all his house." (Hebrews 3:5) So was Abraham. "So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham." (Galatians 3:9) Moses and Abraham were full of faith in Gods Word; therefore they were faithful to Gods Word. The very word "faithful" means "full of faith." God is not impressed with those who boast of themselves and their qualifications or who belittle others.
A divine controversy
Feb 25"Hear ye, O mountains, the Lord's controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the Lord hath a controversy with His people, and He will plead with Israel" (Micah 6:2). It might not occur to average Christians that God is interested in presenting them with His arguments. They might not think it possible that they are in a state of controversy with God. Certainly the Jewish nation at the time of the prophets needed to be alerted to this fact. God challenged them further: "O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me" (v.3). God wanted to have a candid debate with his people.
