Origins Breakthrough of 2009 – Cosmology
Jan 11Every year brings new scientific discoveries that shed light on the past. The Institute for Creation Research is dedicated to the study of origins from a biblical perspective, and ICR News has compiled what we consider to be the top 4 findings related to origin studies from the stories we reported in 2009. The previous installments featured paleontology, biological evolution, and geology, and our final finding focuses on cosmology.
Blinded by Intelligence
Nov 23Even very religious people, people who believe in God as Creator, may blind themselves when confronted with the truth that the Creator must also become their Savior. “But their minds were blinded: . . . even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart” (II Corinthians 3:14,15).
Following after Paul’s example
Feb 07The apostle Paul many times urged his readers to follow his example in living the Christian life. To the Philippians, Paul said: "Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample" (Philippians 3:17). The initial reaction to such exhortations is to think of Paul as arrogant. To the believers in the Corinthian church, he said: "Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me" (1 Corinthians 4:16). To those at Thessalonica, he said: "For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you. . . . Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us" (2 Thessalonians 3:7-9).
The “Light” Brigade
Jan 17"Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son." (Colossians 1:12-13) By His grace, we have been snatched from Satan's darkness and been placed in the kingdom of light. However, we still live in a dark world hostile to the light. We are therefore soldiers of light, but as with any army, we are not to act independently, but instead "as a good soldier of Jesus Christ" (2 Timothy 2:3), we must follow the orders of our commander and act in accordance with established guidelines. The Supreme Commander in this battle of light versus darkness is none other than God the Father, for "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5). "The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1).
We are very special…
Dec 11"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light." (1 Peter 2:9) In our ongoing struggle for both survival and victory in this world, we do well to recognize that we are in enemy territory. While it is true that our Captain created the world -- indeed, "all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made" (John 1:3) Jesus Christ sacrificed His life to redeem it, and will reign over it for eternity. It is also true that "the whole world lieth in wickedness" (1 John 5:19), occupied by "the prince of this world" (John 12:31) and that "the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience" (Ephesians 2:2). The fact that we are surrounded by such darkness should come as no surprise. Remember that we too were part of this world's darkness -- indeed, we had to be called out of it.
