The False Witness of Jehovah Witnesses – part I
The Watchtower Society claims to be the prophet of God. However, it has consistently made false prophecies throughout its history.
Oddly enough, Jehovah’s Witnesses argue that some of the bible’s prophets held mistaken views and yet they were not condemned as false prophets. Neither then, should the Watchtower Society be condemned for its prophetic errors!
This is faulty reasoning. Why? Because, God Himself places the words into the mouths of men called as His true Prophets – for they were communicating direct revelation from God. Here are three biblical references to this fact:
“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.” Deuteronomy 18:18
“The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.” II Samuel 23:2
“Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” II Corinthians 2:13-14
Has the Jehovah Witness “Watchtower Society” erroneously declared they as being the true mouthpiece of God’s revelation to mankind? Yes.
Here are four distinct false prophecies from the Jehovah Witness “Watchtower Society” teachings:
- The Watchtower Society predicted that in 1874 the second coming of Christ would occur.
- The Watchtower Society predicted that the year 1914 would mark the overthrow of human governments and the full establishment of the kingdom of God on earth.
- The Watchtower Society predicted that in 1925 select Old Testament saints – including Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – would rise from the grave and come to live in San Diego.
- The Watchtower Society predicted that in 1975, human history would end and the thousand-year reign of Christ would begin.
NOTE: In addition to these erroneous prophecies, there are more than 100 additional ones that have been issued by the “New Dawn Society” (today’s Watchtower)!

Sometimes Jehovah’s Witnesses give an apology for the Watchtower’s prophetic errors (as a way of disarming further criticism against the Watchtower).
But where in Scripture does it say that if one apologizes for a false prophecy one is no longer a false prophet?
Scripture is firm: A biblical prophet must be 100-percent accurate according to God Himself:
“When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.” Deuteronomy 18:22
How many false prophecies must one commit before he or she is considered anathema to God? The answer is… one. What should our response be to that false prophet? God is straightforward:
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8-9
