The Flying Nun… er’ priest
A Catholic priest recently ascended to heaven on a host of helium party balloons, paying homage to Lawn Chair Larry’s aerial adventure. Larry, the beloved survivor of a Darwin-worthy fiasco, attached 45 helium weather balloons to his lawn chair, packed a picnic lunch, and cut the tether–but instead of drifting above the Los Angeles landscape as planned, he was rocketed into LAX air traffic lanes by the lift of the weather balloons. Astoundingly, Larry survived the flight.
Adelir Antonio, 51, was not so lucky.
His audacious attempt to set a world record for clustered balloon flight was intended to publicize his plan to build a spiritual rest stop for truckers. But, as truckers know, sitting for 19 hours in a lawn chair is not a trivial matter even in the comfort of your own backyard. The priest took numerous safety precautions, including wearing a survival suit, selecting a buoyant chair, and packing a satellite phone and a GPS. However, the late Adelir Antonio made a fatal mistake.
He did not know how to use the GPS.
The winds changed, as winds do, and he was blown inexorably toward open sea. He could have parachuted to safety while over land, but chose not to. When the voyager was perilously lost at sea, he prudently phoned for help–but rescuers were unable to determine his location, since he could not use his GPS. He struggled with the unit as the charge on the satellite phone dwindled.
Instead of a GPS, the priest let God be his guide, and God guided him straight to heaven. Bits of balloons began appearing on mountains and beaches. Ultimately the priest’s body surfaced, confirming that he, like Elvis, had left the building.
duh, catholic, priest, balloon, truckers

As the plane rolled into another stomach-churning maneuver, the passenger was probably wishing that he was somewhere else.
Then, just like that, he was.

Originally reported by “Israel National News”, the planned visit by the Catholic church’s Benedict XVI to the Western Wall (Kotel) may force a ban on Jews from praying there for the first time since their holy site was restored to Israel after 2,000 years. Benedict has said his visit to Israel in mid-May is devoted to “unity’ and “peace.”
Security officials have been discussing the issue with Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, who said he is vehemently opposed to the idea of banning Jews from praying at the wall during Catholic Church leader’s impending visit. Government authorities responsible for the safety of the Pope want to clear the area the evening before his visit until he leaves.

“For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” I Corinthians 12:13
“Where did denominations come from?” This question is often asked of me by the person who has wearied of going from one “church” to the next, trying to find a place they might finally “fit in with.”
My heart goes out to Christians who have wandered from building to building trying to find true fellowship that is described to intimately in the Book of Acts and the Epistle letters.
A Baptist preacher from Massachusetts once told me, “The reason for denominations is because God desires ‘walls of separation’ in order to keep bad doctrine from creeping in.” Unfortunately, this “teacher” was and still is, promoting an exclusivity or “closed fellowship” mentality – doctrines strongly rebuked by the teaching of our Apostles. Is this scriptural? No.

Everyone tells me that I am way to serious about stuff. Actually, I have a pretty lame sense of humor – something to do with spending thirty plus years living in a full house with a wife, a least a dozen young people, eight Jack Russell Terriers and a border dog named “Jack.”
So, I created a special category called, “Duh!” This is where I will post at least one stupid story from around the world… a stupid story for every day of the year – unless you’re Jewish! If you are – then you get blessed with four additional stupid stories for free! Enjoy!

SAN FRANCISCO — A former San Francisco radio talk show host and Roman Catholic priest was sentenced to more than seven years in prison Thursday for distributing child pornography.
Bernie Ward, 57, pleaded guilty in May to one count of distributing child pornography. Prosecutors said investigators found dozens of pornographic images of children as young as 3 on Ward’s home computer, including masochistic images of children bound and gagged.
“He traded in the currency of children’s suffering,” federal prosecutor Steve Grocki said.

“There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully. And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.” Ezekiel 22:25-31

Who is the Dalai Lama and what is he all about? And why should TBC even consider this Tibetan Buddhist “holy man,” whom Time magazine selected to top its list of the 100 most-influential people in the world today? Well, he is a religious figure who has captured the interest-and in many cases the hearts-of millions of people, including multitudes who profess to be evangelicals. It is the latter group’s involvement that is most disturbing and adds impetus to our need to examine his beliefs. An attraction to religious “celebrities” with false beliefs is not something new among evangelicals, especially as we see apostasy growing exponentially and ecumenical developments taking place that will eventually usher in the one-world religion of the Antichrist (Revelation 13:8). Here are a few recent examples.
When we addressed our concerns about Mother Teresa in past TBC articles and columns, we received numerous letters objecting to our “attacking such a godly woman who loves Jesus.” Simply put, the Jesus whom Mother Teresa professed to love is not the biblical Jesus. John MacArthur discerned that clearly when he visited her in Calcutta. Surrounded by images of Hindu deities hanging on the walls of her facility for ministering to the sick and dying, she signed a Bible for MacArthur that reflected her deep yet erroneous Catholic beliefs: “May you enter into the heart of Jesus through the Virgin Mary….”

“Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” John 3:7
The term “born again” has come into such common use in recent years, even in political campaigns, that its tremendous meaning has been all but lost. But Jesus – who ought to know, being none other than God incarnate – said “Ye must be born again!” Furthermore, He said it to Nicodemus, one of the most religiously knowledgeable people of that day.
He did not say to Nicodemus that “they must be born again,” meaning the unbelieving multitudes who were not as instructed in the things of God as they should be. Nor did he say that “we must be born again,” meaning all of us mortals including Himself. Rather, Jesus said, “Ye must be born again!”

“These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots.” (Jude 12)
We often speak of people who have been “born again” through faith in Christ as being “twice born” men or women. Jude, however, here speaks of certain people who are “twice dead.” Such people already, Jude says, “were before of old ordained |or ‘forewritten’| to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness |or ‘anarchy’|, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 4).
Apparently there are some people who, even while still living, have already been consigned to hell, and thus are not only “dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1, the innate condition of all men until they are born again), but twice dead, already participating in the second death. These are apostate teachers who have known and understood the gospel of the grace of Christ and have even for a time presented an outward appearance of teaching and believing biblical truth–perhaps even believing mentally that they had become disciples of Christ. But then they became apostates, repudiating true creationism and the doctrines of salvation by grace through the saving work of Christ their Creator, even though they had formerly taught these truths. “There remaineth no more sacrifice for sins” (Hebrews 10:26), and they are forever apostate.
