“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard how I said to you, I go away and I am coming to you again. If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, I go to the Father, for My Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens you might believe. I shall no longer speak many things with you, for the ruler of this world comes, and he has nothing in Me. But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father has given Me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go away from here.” John 14:27-31

seduction Jesus Christ warned his disciples about a soon coming king that would be called the “ruler of this world” – who is the epitome of evil. He is known by a number of different names; King of Tyre (Ezekiel 28:12), Beelzebub (Luke 11:18), Lucifer and son of the morning (Isaiah 14:12), Serpent (Genesis 3:1), Devil (Matthew 4:1), Dragon (Revelation 20:2) and:

“And they had a king over them, the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in Greek his name is Apollyon”.” Revelation 9:11

Christians throughout the ages have been fascinated by the subject of Satan. God’s Word makes very clear a number of truths about Satan – and these truths are what compels a believer “not to fear.” (John 14:27)

Where did Satan come from – creation:

“And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, Son of man, lift up a lament over the king of Tyre, and say to him, So says the Lord Jehovah: You seal the measure, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” Ezekiel 28:11-15

  • Satan was full of wisdom and perfect in beauty (v. 12-13)
  • Satan was before the face of God and his voice was perfectly formed and beautiful (v. 13)
  • Satan was allowed to walk between the stones of fire, whose wings (As a Cherub) covered the very throne of God (v. 14)
  • Satan was perfectly created by God (v. 15a)

2. How did Satan become the devil – corruption:

“You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, until iniquity was found in you. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.” Ezekiel 28:15-17

  • Satan created his own evil and violence and sin (v. 15b-17)
  • Satan consumed with his own beauty and abilities – and his wisdom becomes corrupted (v. 16-17)
  • Satan convinced that he could be greater than the One who created him (v. 17)

3. Will God do something about Satan – continuation:

“By the multitude of your goods they have filled your midst with violence, and you have sinned. So I cast you profaned from the height of God, and I destroy you, O covering cherub, from among the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you have spoiled your wisdom because of your brightness. I will cast you to the ground; I will put you before kings, that they may behold you. By the host of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your trade, you have profaned your holy places; so I brought a fire from your midst; it shall devour you, and I will give you for ashes on the earth, before the eyes of all who see you. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.” Ezekiel 28:16-19

  • Satan is removed (destroyed) from God’s holy heights and from walking amongst the midst of the stones of fire of God’s presence (v. 16-17)
  • Satan is cast down out of heaven by God and is made to be a spectacle before mere earthly kings and men of the earth (v. 17-18)
  • Satan is enveloped in the very fires of his own rebellion – and the world sees his beauty consumed by the fiery wrath of God (v. 18)
  • Satan is forced to dwell amongst the earthly wicked! They themselves become terrified by the very presence of the one whom they worshipped! (v. 19)

4. What God declares about Satan – Condemnation:

“All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.” Ezekiel 28:19

  • Satan is no more (v. 19)

5. What is the end of Satan – Conclusion:

Part One:

“And the beast (‘One World’ political leader empowered by Satan) was taken, and with him the false prophet (‘One World’ religious leader empowered by Satan) doing signs before it, (by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast), and those who had worshiped his image. The two were thrown alive into the Lake of Fire burning with brimstone.” Revelation 19:20

Part Two:

“And I saw an angel come down from Heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him a thousand years. And he cast him into the abyss and shut him up and set a seal on him, that he should deceive the nations no more until the thousand years should be fulfilled. And after that he must be loosed a little time.” Revelation 20:1-3

  • Satan is bound in chains and thrown headlong into the abyss – by a heavenly angel (v. 1)
  • Satan is forced to dwell, completely chained and helpless for 1,000 years (v. 2)
  • Satan is entombed in the abyss and and a seal set upon him by God – and having no more power to deceive nations and peoples (v. 3)

Part Three:

“And when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be loosed out of his prison. And he will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle. The number of them is as the sand of the sea. And they went up over the breadth of the earth and circled around the camp of the saints, and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of Heaven and devoured them.” Revelation 20:7-9

  • Satan is allowed, by Jesus Christ, to come up from his torment and gather unbelievers together from every corner of the earth (v. 7-8)
  • Satan is allowed, by Jesus Christ, to gather unbelievers together one last time in an attempt to destroy the Saints and Jerusalem (v. 9)
  • Satan is allowed, by Jesus Christ, to witness fire come down from heaven and God and devour all the foolhardy souls worldwide who followed after the devil and his lies (v. 9)

Part Four:

“And the Devil who deceived them was cast into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet were . And he will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” Revelation 20:10

Things all Christians are to remember:

  1. Satan is a created being and is NOT God or a god.
  2. Satan does not have the ability to be in all places at one time – only God has that trait.
  3. Satan does not have the ability to “read your mind” – only God has that trait.
  4. Satan does not have the authority to rule both heaven and earth – only God has that trait.
  5. Satan does not have absolute power of all the affairs of men – only God has that trait.
  6. Satan does not have the ability to “possess” a true believer at any time – only God has that trait.
  7. Satan does not have free reign to do as he pleases – but, must submit to the authority of Jesus Christ!
